Pope Leo is openly endorsing Pope Francis' heretical 2016 document Amoris Laetitia, which allows divorced and civilly remarried people to receive Communion. On the tenth anniversary of the signing of AL on March 19, 2026, Leo lauded the document with these words:
“On this tenth anniversary, we give thanks to the Lord for the stimulus that has encouraged reflection and pastoral conversion in the Church, and ask God for the courage to persevere on this path.”
What Amoris Laetitia has encouraged is the breaking of God’s commandments and the ruin of souls. With true pastoral care, the Church has always forbidden Catholics to receive Communion while in a state of adultery.
If Catholics receive Communion while in adultery or serious sin they commit a sacrilege, which is a serious mortal sin. If the pope and bishops do not steer souls away from this path they rob them of their salvation, which is callous and unpastoral on their part.
St. Paul says,
"Therefore whosoever shall eat this bread, or drink the chalice of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the Body and of the blood of the Lord.... For he that eats and drinks unworthily, eats and drinks judgment to himself." (1 Cor. 11:27,29)
Why then is Leo encouraging unworthy reception of Christ's Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity?
With respect to adulterers and homosexuals, Francis often said that the Church must "accompany them," but he did not mean this in the sense of counselling them or walking them out of sin but in the sense of walking with them in their sin, i.e. to assist it. To this end Francis says in chapter 8 of Amoris Laetitia:
“In certain cases this can include the help of the sacraments.” (Fn 351)
Francis was specifically referring to the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, which is the greatest of the seven sacraments.
The whole controversy surrounding Amoris Laetitia wasn’t just over divorced Catholics receiving Communion but over a whole slew of moral issues like allowing divorced and LGBTQ people to teach catechism to our Catholic youth. This is just another way of teaching them to respect divorce and homosexuality. Why is Leo encouraging the Church “to persevere on this path?”
And why does he feel so bound to model his papacy after Francis? A pope is supposed to follow Christ and not a wayward pope. Francis’ 12-year tenure was all about “inclusivity.” Why then didn’t he include tradition-minded Catholics and the Latin Mass as part of his vision for the Church? Why does Leo listen to him?
