On June 11, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) consecrated America to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. At first, the news of this seemed welcoming especially since it appeared that many of the bishops had put their hearts into this. And certainly, many of them did.
But something doesn’t add up. The Consecration was supposedly done as an act of reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. As it says in the Consecration prayer, “We make reparation for the offenses against you.” Sin is what crucifies and pierces the Heart of Christ, especially the sins today within the Church. The bishops say they are intending to ease the suffering Heart of Jesus, yet they are promoting the very offenses that are driving the dagger into his Heart.
These include:
Treating the Church as a meeting hall for socializing
Suppressing the Traditional Latin Mass
Allowing contemporary kiddie guitar Mass
The practice of Communion in the hand
The use of lay Eucharistic ministers
Allowing heretics to overrun the Church
Condoning and blessing homosexuality
The priestly blessing of gay couples
Appointing homosexuals to high positions in the Church
Allowing women on the altar as speakers
Allowing shameful immodesty in Church
Using the Church for “interfaith” worship
Preaching heresy from the pulpit
Preaching that all religions are paths to God
Promoting synodality
Saying that Mary is not Co-Redemptrix and Mediatrix of Grace
These offenses pierce the Heart of Jesus, especially since they have scandalized millions of Catholics and made a laughingstock of his Church. As the bishops see it, the Consecration is not serving to repair for sins against God but for the so-called sins against human dignity and migrant intruders. Consider the following stanza from the Consecration prayer:
“We make reparation for the offenses against you and against human dignity that have taken place in this nation.”
This echoes the theme of Pope Leo who told migrants during his recent trip to Spain, “I want to bow before your dignity.”
The bishops’ fuss over migration is a scandal and an insult to God’s goodness. God gave us America that we might guard her and stand by her and instead the bishops have encouraged the enemy to breach her borders. This political obsession with migrants has brought crime and violence into our country. The bishops call these intruders migrants but many of them are criminals armed with weapons, and instead of supporting President Trump in sending them back home the bishops have embezzled church money to keep them here.
The U.S. Bishops claim that they want consecrate America to the Sacred Heart but how can a country be consecrated to Christ when it allows things like homosexuality? The bishops must first speak out against the crime of homosexuality that is rampant across our land, but instead they have blessed this rot in the name of human dignity and have refused to repair for this offense against the Sacred Heart.
So if the intention of the U.S. Bishops is to make reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus they need to cleanse the Church of the above-mentioned errors and need to condemn the crime of LGBTQ that “cries to heaven for vengeance.” That is official Church teaching so why don’t they uphold it? Homosexuality is the most unAmerican thing that one can imagine so why are the bishops so silent about this?
Perhaps a more contrite stanza for the Consecration prayer might be:
It is we the Catholic bishops that have offended your dignity;
We have run after things that offend you and have
sought to change your Church to win the approval of the world.
We have pierced your Sacred Heart with our manifold sins
and have feigned reparation with empty words.
Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea Maxima culpa.
Let us pray that the bishops will at least try to live up to the words of the Consecration prayer that they published on June 11.
