The Key Reason Rome Plans to Ax the SSPX

The priestly Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) founded by the late Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre is coming more and more into the public spotlight as they plan to consecrate bishops on July 1 against the wish of DDF prefect and sexually explicit author Cardinal Victor Fernandez. Unfortunately, Fernandez has the full backing of Pope Leo XIV who should know better. The Vatican said they will excommunicate the SSPX if they go through with the consecration of new bishops.

However, the long-standing issue with the SSPX is not even about the consecration of bishops but about their position on Vatican II. The consecration of bishops is only being used as an excuse to ax the SSPX. Since its inception in 1970 the Society has rejected Vatican II, and rightfully so, and Rome hasn’t ceased to persecute them for this.

In this, the Vatican is wrong while the Society is right. Vatican II truly was a council gone wrong. It was started with the best resolves – and these resolves were not to change the Catholic Church – but the Council was hijacked in the opening session by an infamous clique of modernists, whereby it went from being a legitimate council to an anti-Church revolution. Professor Romano Amerio who contributed significantly to the original outline for Vatican II said that its legal framework was violated because these modernists had rejected John XXIII’s plan for the Council.

While on his deathbed on June 2, 1963, Pope John cried out, “Stop the Council, Stop the Council,” but Vatican liberals wouldn’t listen. They muzzled his voice, and unfortunately, he “died” the very next day. Pope John was quite ill, granted, but he wasn’t necessarily expected to die the next day.

It calls to mind what happened to the late Fatima priest Fr. Nicholas Gruner who lived for the restoration of Holy Tradition. An “ex-Freemason” invited him to dinner one night and he was dead early the next morning, on April 29, 2015. This should not have happened because Fr. Gruner was in good health. Every indication is that the Mason threw some Salsa into his pasta.

Pope Pius XII was given the same treatment in 1958 because he was about to release the Third Secret of Fatima against the wishes of Vatican scoundrels. These scoundrels included the late Cardinal Augustine Bea who spent his life carrying forth the legacy of initiated Freemason Cardinal Rampolla of Sicily.

On the subject of the Third Secret, Cardinal Ratzinger (later Benedict XVI) told the late Fr. Ingo Dollinger – a close friend and assistant of the late St. Padre Pio – that the Third Secret of Fatima spoke of a “bad council” and “bad Mass” to come. Fr. Dollinger, a Traditional Latin Mass priest, maintained this testimony until his passing in June 2017. The council mentioned in the Secret was Vatican II, which Padre Pio always rejected.

Like St. Padre Pio, The SSPX stands against Vatican II, which only goes to their credit. If Rome excommunicates the Society the excommunication will be invalid as was the excommunication of St. Athanasius who is listed as a canonized saint. As we know, Athanasius spoke out against the jeering crowd of Arians that the Church at large had joined, yet God rewarded him while most of the other Catholics perished in their sins.

Even so, there is a slight problem with the SSPX in that there are basically two schools of thought among them: those who acknowledge that the wide body of the Church is still the Catholic Church and those who say they are the sole heirs of Catholic tradition. Some indeed think this way. The Society is an organization, not the Church. Christ tells us that the wheat and the cockle must grow together until God himself comes and judges each individual (Mt. 13:25). Fortunately, the better part of the SSPX holds to this truth.

Hopefully, the new bishops to be consecrated will counsel Society members not to judge misled Catholics but to rather judge the cause of modernism that they hold to. That way the Society will be more motivated to pray for them and nurse the Church back to spiritual health.
