In his May 15 encyclical Magnifica Humanitas, Pope Leo says that the Church’s teaching on just war is now outdated.
"Without prejudice to the right to self-defense in the strictest sense, it is important to reaffirm that the 'just war' theory, which has all too often been used to justify any kind of war, is now outdated," he says.
First of all, the Church’s teaching on just war is a doctrine, not a theory, which means it cannot be outdated. Trying to outdate this is like trying to outdate the Crucifixion. It’s an invalid move. Calling the just war teaching a “theory” only makes it easier to get away with this.
Leo says that for too long people have used the Church’s just war teaching as a “permission slip” to engage in cruel, aggressive war, but that’s not the Church’s fault. It is people who don’t follow the Church that do this – people like Putin and Netanyahu. Simple common sense will tell us that a country always has the right to defend its people by the use of war. If the lives of men, women, and children are jeopardized by an oncoming invasion, countries not only have the right but the duty to halt the enemy via war. And they don’t have to be gentle about it.
The U.S. went to war with Germany to stop the cruelty of Nazism that threatened all of Europe. Over 407,000 Americans lost their lives in the Second World War. This is called heroism, not the pursuit of cruelty. In the Old Testament it was God himself who directed just kings to make war with the Philistines. Up to ten thousand were sometimes killed in one battle. Did God punish or reward the just kings who oversaw these just wars? Yea, he rewarded them.
Leo Calls for Disarmament Just When the West Needs its Arms
The world today has never been so threatened by the advance of Communism. Putin and Jinping Xi are making ready to slaughter millions the world over, so where do we find the room to say ‘forget Church teaching and put down your arms?’ Note the timing. Just when things are escalating more than ever Leo suddenly plays the pacifist to the glee of the Communists. Their plan is to get America to put down its arms so that we are caught off guard during an invasion, and here Leo uses the name of the Church to fuel this disarmament rhetoric. The Communists must be doing somersaults right now.
Leo Appoints First Lay Woman to Head a Vatican Dicastery
Leo makes like he is so against war, but he needs to consider his own war against the Church. His appointing of gay clergy to high ecclesial positions and his declaration that Mary is not Mediatrix of All Grace and Co-redemptrix are just two among many assaults he has waged against the Church. And now, he has just appointed a lay woman to head the Vatican’s LGBTQ-infested communications department, which is a pro-feminist move. Maria Montserrat Alvarado, an EWTN employee, will take up her new post on November 1.
"Alvarado is the first non-religious woman to be appointed prefect of a dicastery of the Holy See," the Vatican news service report said.
What next, will he appoint Fr. James Martin to head a new Vatican dicastery on sexual morals?
