Bring the LORD to His People - Combat Coronavirus

Bishop J. Strickland blessing Tyler, TX (LifeSite News)

As nearly a third of the United States and the world's population takes extreme measures to quarantine and fight the spread of COVID-19, some Catholic clergy are following the spiritual guidance of Pope St. Gregory the Great and St. Charles Borromeo to publicly project the Faith and bring the sacraments to the faithful.

On March 21st, Bishop Joseph Strickland of Tyler, TX, took to Twitter to announce:

The good Bishop did so, last Sunday, draped in cope and humeral veil, blessed hundreds of passerby's with the exposed Holy Eucharist in a monstrance. This glorious act comes only three months after Bishop Strickland declared 2020 to be the "Year of the Holy Eucharist," promising to weekly visit his diocese's parishes during Eucharistic Adoration and Procession.

Initially, the Bishop's motivations were to combat the horrible lack of belief in the Real Presence and the modern genocide through abortion; but now, he must "Bring the LORD to His people," to beseech God to protect them from coronavirus.

Thanks be to God, the good Bishop of Tyler, TX, is not alone in this fight. While Masses have been shut down in Italy, priests like Fr. Tamaso Jozef Jochemczyk (Benedictines of the Immaculate) in Villatalla, Italy and Fr. Leonardo Riccota in Palermo, Sicily carried the Blessed Sacrament through the streets and chanted the Litany of the Saints, stopping to bless houses, Churches, and hospitals.

Instead of following the actions of many clergy in the modern Church in closing Churches, ceasing Masses until further notice, and turning off the fountain of Sanctifying Grace by refusing to administer the Sacraments, these Good Shepherds are placing the spiritual needs of the 'Little Ones' and Worship of God, Latria, before their own temporal needs and securities.

Like St. Charles Borromeo, we must remember: "if we wish to make any progress in the service of God we must begin every day of our life with new eagerness. We must keep ourselves in the presence of God as much as possible and have no other view or end in all our actions but the divine honor."

In Christ Crucified and the Most Victorious Heart of Jesus.
