Catholic Answer on Immigration

Bottom line up front, end abortion and contraception and the immigration battle will cease to be a major debate in the United States.

The immigration debate in the United States continues to intensify, as we approach a general election year. Europe is no different. Liberals and socialists push to erase sovereign boarders, decrease domestic population growth, dilute national cultures and identities, and enslave migrants to the secular state by acquiring their votes with promises of welfare benefits.

According to the Center for Immigration Studies, US population is projected to increase by 75.3 million, about 95% of which is from immigration, by 2060. In Europe, the situation is no different; OECD reporting that, over the past 10 years, migrants accounted for 75% of the increase in the EU's workforce.

Liberals will have you believe that any opposition against immigration is racist and xenophobic, and that Christian virtues and charity require Western nations to welcome all migrants with open arms.

So, what's the Catholic answer on immigration?

"So there abide faith, hope and charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity," wrote St. Paul the Apostle in 1 Corinthians 13:13. The Apostle, inspired by our Lord and the Holy Ghost, instructs us that those with faith and without charity are nothing. Charity must be a cornerstone within our lives as Christians; however, not at the expense of our security. Immigration is welcomed, but not at the expense of Americans.

To be charitable to those who violate our sovereign boarders is not charity, its treason. True charity would be to administer fair justice and expel such violators from the land.

God commands us to defend our homes and families, instructing Moses "if a thief is caught in the act of house-breaking and beaten to death, there is no bloodguilt involved," Exodus 22:1. It is no secret that liberals seek to violate our sovereignty for their own political agenda, choosing to reward illegal immigrants rather than execute fair justice.

There is much debate about open boarders and the fluidity of travel for migrants into Western countries. With such policies, the notion of violating national sovereignty would be ignored, allowing such crimes of illegal immigration to be decriminalized. The full show of hands, at the Democratic Presidential Debate, to not prosecute illegal immigrants and grant full federal benefits, stands testament to such decriminalization.

Boarders protect sovereignty, providing legal and physical boundaries around a community, society, or nation. God wills the lawful boundaries of man and nations, declaring to Abraham that "in your descendants all the nations of the earth shall be blessed" Gn. 22:18. Humanity is a race of many peoples, languages, and cultures, divided from Babel, so that we can be united and blessed by Holy Mother Church and the Mystical Body of Christ. Our Lord, before His ascension, instructed the Apostles to "go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit" Mt. 28:19.

It is not our common home or shared humanity that unites us, for they are false means to an eternal end, but our Father in heaven and His Catholic Faith that makes us one under His paternal protection.

Last, but not least; end abortion and contraception and the immigration battle will cease to be a major debate in the United States.

Since Roe v. Wade, over 60 million babies have been aborted; that's nearly 1 million per year. If you counted the tens of millions of prevented pregnancies from contraceptives, the number would likely approach 200 million. Today, we face the lowest birth rate in over 30 years. The average family has 1.5 children, instead of the average 4 to 5 children from the 50's and 60's.

The very nature of American society and the US economy would be extremely different. Instead of a stagnant and, in many areas, shrinking domestic population, most communities would still enjoy growing households and neighborhoods.

Consumer demand would be nearly 25% greater than it is today, boosting confidence in the domestic economy, commercial growth, and employment opportunities. Imagine the millions of more tons of food that would be consumed in the US, rather than shipping to China, thus decreasing logistical costs and increasing profit margins for domestic farmers. With the workforce being supplied by healthy domestic population growth, society becomes more focused on protecting American manufacturing and farming.

On the local, state, and national levels, the political debate becomes: why should we allow companies to outsource to foreign countries and hire immigrants when we need to ensure that there are enough jobs for 4 to 5 children per family?

Simply put, a large influx of immigrants is no longer needed to supplement the constrained workforce created by abortion and contraceptive drugs.

The immigration debate ends with the overturn of Roe v. Wade.
